Apple OS X 10.10 Yosemite Nearing Completion with GM 2 and Killer Features Released to Developers
Apple has been working on the release of the OS X 10.20 Yosemite with its gold master builds now issued to developers along with the Xcode 6.1. The release of the GM 2 build came after the iOS 8.1 beta launch. The new operating system is expected to roll out later this October offering deeper integration with the iOS. Can Apple deliver a new killer platform?
Analysts have been noting the fast turnaround of beta releases compared to the usual Apple practice. The newest OX X Yosemite and Xcode 6.1 GMS were released one week exactly after developers received the initial release candidates. According to AppleInsider, golden master identifiers are often labeled to software versions that are near-completion or final. This means that Apple's announcement about the new operating system is just around corner.
Yosemite goes by the label 14A386a presently. The first GM candidate went by the label 14A378a. The most anticipated feature of the software is Continuity. This will allow the OS to be integrated on a deeper scale with the iOS. This means that people can use their Mac computers and iPhones interchangeably for specific functions. Other iOS devices may also qualify. The best example is making and receiving calls and text messages via the computer instead of the iPhone. Email conversations can be continued easily as well across the platforms. Several reports suggest that while the feature has been on Android and Windows device previously, a better integration will strengthen the already robust Apple ecosystem.
According to Mashable, the OS X Yosemite GM only amounts to 100mb on the computer system. This is a strong indication that the Apple is near the general release. Several reports also noted that Apple may hold a new press event this October 16 to reveal the OS X Yosemite and several iPad devices. It was also noted in several sources that the iOS 8.1 release should be released around October 20.
