Apple has proven itself as the reigning leader of mobile innovation promoting unique smart watches that made them land in Mashable's list of 13 Standout Tech Products of 2013.

The Cupertino, a California-based tech company's star product, noted the iPhone 5S made it to the list at number four spot, primarily because of its TouchID fingerprint sensor housed in its home button. Lance Ulanoff commended Apple's iPhone 5S review for the "easy and secure" feel of the TouchID system, while noting that the fingerprint data for the system is locally encrypted into the hardware instead of stored with Apple.

The iPhone 5S's 64-bit A7 mobile chip also got a special mention. The chipset which was twice as fast as the A6 in iPhone 5 and 5C gave more power for better performance in gaming and in digital photography, which Ulanoff says is 'the best (digital photography I) have ever seen on a smartphone.'

Meanwhile, Mashable was also impressed when Apple's latest MacBook release, the 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, is initially priced at $1,299 when its previous releases were priced way higher during its first days.

Pete Pachal, a technology journalist, was even more impressed when its battery lasted more than 7 hours even with heavy app usage and some games on the side compared to the previous models where it lasted only 3 hours. However, he experienced a few unboxing glitches which were repaired by software updates.

Also, two smart watches made it to list: the Pebble Smartwatch (#3) and the Fitbit Force (#8). The former was the first smartwatch to sport an e-paper screen, and was first noticed through its Kickstarter campaign. It has apps for virtually any kind of user and is compatible to both iPhone and Android devices.

Unlike Pebble, Fitbit Force was more of a fitness tracker than a smart watch. It was the first of its kind to sport an OLED display and connects to both iPhone and Android devices through Bluetooth Smart technology and its native app. Samantha Murphy, however, complains that it looks a bit cumbersome compared to its previous model, the Fitbit Flex.

Other products which made to the list are the Leap Motion, the game BioShock Infinite and the Kindle Fire HDX.

The placers in the list are cast from hundreds of products given the Mashable Choice, an award which the site gives out to 'products and services (we've) tested and would recommend to others.' They based the Standout distinction on the products being the "excellent examples of the categories they represent."
