Apple to Say ‘Sorry, Samsung’ via UK Media – A look back into the case
Apple has been instructed by the High Court of England & Wales to issue an apology to Samsung by following specific instructions down to the font type and size.
How should Apple apologize? Details below. But first, here is a look back into the UK case.
Apple vs Samsung, iPad vs Galaxy Tab
A UK judge who heard Apple's appeal for its intellectual property case against Samsung ruled that the Korean device maker did not copy the iPad design.
Apple had pointed out that Samsung used iPad's features for its Galaxy Tab. Phrased used in driving the point included "slightly rounded corners," "a flat transparent surface without any ornamentation," and "a thin profile."
Samsung emphasized that buyers could easily tell the difference between the iPad and Galaxy Tab without having to examine the devices closely. The court paid attention to "front surface design and in the thinness of the side profile" and "found the most vivid differences in the rear surface design."
In a report by thenextweb.com, Samsung was quoted as saying:
"Apple's excessive legal claims based on such a generic design right can harm not only the industry's innovation as a whole, but also unduly limit consumer choice."
In the original ruling issued in July, the judge ruled Samsung did not copy Apple's design because the Galaxy Tab is "not as cool" as the iPad. The court upheld its decision after Apple lodged an appeal. And now Apple has to apologize to Samsung via UK media.
Say Sorry, Apple - Follow specific instructions
Apple has to publish an apology to Samsung through various media channels in the UK. The iPhone maker is instructed to express via UK media that Samsung did not copy its iPad design for the Galaxy Tab device.
Apple is also told to provide a link to the UK court's ruling on its UK website, Business Insider reported.
Finally, Apple has to print their apology in at least 14 point Arial font.
