Apple Unleashes 2013 Haswell MacBook Pro with Retina Display: What to Expect
Apple finally released their much awaited refreshed line of MacBook Pros. The tech giant unveiled the 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display running on fourth generation Intel Core processors at their press event, Oct 22.
The newest line of MacBook Pros boasts of faster flash storage, longer battery life, improved graphics and next generation Wi-Fi. Apple will start shipping the Retina Display version at $1,299. According to Apple, the device features a thin and light design and packs on power to cater to the most demanding users.
The company also announced that both the iLife and iWork will be pre-installed or free for every purchase of the latest Mac.
"We've made the world's best pro notebook even better by adding more performance and even longer battery life," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Apple.
"MacBook Pro with Retina display continues to redefine the pro notebook," he added.
The retina display for the 15-inch version offers 5 million pixels, whereas the 13-inch version offers 4 million. The latest screen resolution will let people re-touch videos and photos with "an astounding level of clarity," as Apple noted on their website.
"The pixel density is so high, your eyes can't discern individual pixels. Images take on a new level of realism. A spectacular 2560-by-1600 resolution on the 13‑inch MacBook Pro and an equally impressive 2880-by-1800 resolution on the 15‑inch MacBook Pro let you see more of your high-resolution images with pixel-for-pixel accuracy. And text is so sharp, you'll feel like you're reading email, web pages, and documents on a printed page," Apple said.
The battery life of the latest MacBook Pros are more efficient compared to previous models because of Haswell. The latest Apple OS X 10.9 Mavericks should also help in cutting down power usage. All in all, the laptops offer around 9 hours of battery or more depending on usage. The Wi-Fi is faster because of the 802.11ac support. Other specs include: 4 GB of 1600 MHz memory, 128 GB of flash storage and Intel's integrated Iris Graphics.
The updated MacBook Pro with Retina Display measures 0.71 inches thin. The 13-inch version runs with fourth generation dual-core Intel Core i5 processors up to 2.6 GHz. The Turbo Boost can reach up to 3.1 GHz. The latest integrated Intel Iris graphics provides up to 90 percent better performance compared to previous models.
Users can choose to configure the 13-inch model with with faster dual-core Intel Core i7 processors up to 2.8 GHz. The Turbo Boost can be configured up to 3.3 GHz.
