Apple Watch Production To Begin In Jan 2015, Poised For Release In Feb
Apple, Inc. launched the Apple Watch with the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus smartphones on Sept 9. Both iPhone 6 models have hit the market on Sept 19. However, the Apple Watch release date is still kept under wraps by Apple until now.
Previous rumours indicated that Apple would start production of the Apple Watch in November and release the smartwatch in Jan or Feb 2015. However, according to Apple Daily, Apple would start with the manufacturing process of its smartwatch in Jan 2015 and release the handset in February.
According to GSMArena's report, the reason why Apple may release the Apple Watch in February is because the company wants to release the smartwatch before Valentine's Day. However, PhoneArena claims that the news released by GforGames via Apple Daily (a Chinese site from Taiwan) is somehow "inconsistent" because it can take more than a month to build the Apple Watch. The site claims the Apple Watch production would take at least three months to finish.
PhoneArena further adds that if the news about the mass production of Apple Watch in Jan 2015 is true, then the release date of the smartwatch would happen around March and April. Also according to the site, Quanta is the only chosen supplier by Apple. GSMArena claims that Quanta is looking forward to hire numerous employees by Jan 2015.
As of now, Quanta has the exclusive rights to manufacture the Apple Watch. Tech analysts feel that if the Cupertino company manages to achieve impressive Apple Watch sales, the company may consider hiring another OEM some time in the coming year.
Meanwhile, Digital Trends states that the Apple Watch will be launched in three different editions. The base model is called Apple Watch, which features a stainless steel body. The Apple Watch edition features an 18-karat yellow or rose gold design with a scratch-resistant exterior and sapphire crystal glass displays. The Apple Watch Sport, meanwhile, is made of anodized aluminum. According to the site, it is very light, resistant to scratch and impact, and features an Ion-X glass display.
