The Apple Watch has continued to dominate the smartwatch market ever since it was unveiled to the public. The wearable device was officially launched on April 24 this year, and it is already at the forefront of its niche.

Since its debut in the tech market, the Cupertino-based tech giant's smartwatch has already gotten a sizeable lead from its competitors with total shipments of nearly 7 million units, according to known research firm Canalys. This particular figure - which only covers two quarters of this year - is much higher than the smartwatch shipments of its rivals put together over the past five quarters.

This figure was from Canalys since Apple has not yet released its own tally for its smartwatch sales, especially after the company faced some supply constraints earlier this year.

It is worth noting though that self-made tally or not, the Apple Watch has now become a product of highest profile in the growing field of wearable technology. This particular niche has now become more competitive with the production additions of Apple's toughest rivals, namely, LG, Motorola and Samsung.

Other brands boast of their own specs, but the Apple Watch has been praised for its design prowess. Other factors that have made the Apple Watch dominate in the tech market's smartwatch sector are its brand allure and software-hardware integration.

Now that the more than 7 million units have been purchased in just two quarters, it remains to be known particularly how many units will be sold during this year's holiday shopping quarter - which is the time of year when consumers tend to spend more heavily than usual, according to CNET. That said, during this particular season, it is expected that Apple will be butting heads with its high end rivals, such as Tag Heuer and Fossil - both will be unveiling their very first smartwatches before the year ends.
