No further delays are expected on this year's iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 rollouts as Apple once again tapped its chief rival Samsung to supply the Retina panel that will be installed to the iOS 7-powered tablets, a new report said.

Citing reports from South Korean publication ETNews, Apple Insider revealed this week that Apple is working anew with Samsung to ship out on time its 2013 tablet offering. Specifically, the Galaxy device maker is supplying the U.S. company's Retina display panel production requirements.

It appears that Apple was forced to rely once more on it bitter rival following major setbacks it faced with other display partners, particularly with Sharp of Japan and AU Optronics of Taiwan.

The two contractors are hampered by serious production issues that prevent them from delivering Retina in accordance with Apple's strict shipment deadline and quality standards.

To avert distribution delays for both the iPad Mini 2 and the iPad, the tech titan asked Samsung Display to join LG Display in producing the Retina display components of the upcoming iOS devices.

Prior to the report, analysts expresses fears that Apple could be forced to delay the release date of its Retina-laced iPad Mini 2, pointing to production challenges in scaling the panel technology for use on the Mini's 7.9-inch screen display.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, Apple will have to pushback the iPad Mini 2 with Retina launch and in its stead, issue a similar size iPad Mini with scaled down capabilities and cheaper price tag.

This assessment was supported last week by Citi Research analyst Glenn Yeung, who added that the approach will at least allow Apple to compete with Android tablets that lure many consumers with affordable price point.

Yet with Samsung again gaining an entry into Apple's iPad supply chain, Retina panel components will be delivered to the latter's Chinese manufacturing plants "in the third and fourth quarters of calendar 2013," said the Apple Insider report.

The same report made no mention on release dates but Apple is believed to have set iPad 5's debut a few weeks after the rumoured iPhone 5S unveiling in September. On the other hand, the iPad Mini 2 should be out by Q4 2013 though some analysts the unwrapping could come as late as Q1 2014.
