Arcade Fire wins Best Album of the Year at 2011 Grammys
Canadian Group, Arcade Fire robbed Eminem of the Best Album of the Year award at 53rd Grammys
Arcade Fire has received the much-coveted Best Album of the Year award at this year’s 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, on February 13, 2011. The rock group won the top major award, leaving Eminem with no major win at Sunday's awards night.
The Canadian group, said the Associated Press, bagged the major award for “The Suburbs”, crushing to the ground other nominees for the category, leaving a huge defeat for comeback artist and rapper, Eminem.
Eminem leads other nominees vying for the award, for his 2010 album, ‘Recovery”. His comeback album has sold millions of copies and has been the favorite to dominate this year’s Grammys.
Other nominees beaten out by the Canadian rock group, include “Need You Know” by Lady Antebellum; “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry; and “The Fame Monster” by Lady Gaga.
Arcade Fire according to AP, was also nominated but lost in two other categories.
Described by Reuters as the shock winner of this year’s Grammys, Arcade Fire left Eminem his third lost for the top major music award. Eminem only brought home two minor wins out of ten nominations.
