There has been a rising interest in virtual reality platforms among publishers and developers, who hope the years-old technology -- which creates a 360-degree view that immerses players in fantasy settings -- can finally become a viable platform to reverse shrinking video game industry revenues and draw a new generation of users. The multiplayer mode in every main series title of "Assassins Creed" has reportedly always been available ever since "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood." However, recent update from Ubisoft revealed "Rogue" and "Unity" will not have the same feature.

Joystiq writer Ludwig Kietzmann claims Ubisoft has confirmed that "Assassin's Creed Unity" and Assassin's Creed Rogue" will both be a single-player game. The latter will reportedly also feature a four-player co-operative experience for its online version. According to Kietzmann, 2014 marks the first time Ubisoft took a break from its series of multiplayer games since 2010.

To address the clamour from fans for a multiplayer mode in "Assassins Creed Unity," Ubisoft tells Joystiq it has decided to incorporate the cooperative gaming experience instead. The site reports the company has explored the cooperative idea ever since "Unity" evolved, which the company credits to the emergence of new gaming platfoms.

"Our aim was to have a seamless single-to-multi experience: This is why we are not opposing single player and co-op," Ubisoft said.

Despite it being a single-player game, the company claims "Assassins Creed Unity" will still feature historical missions that deals with Arno's story. The game's storyline will reportedly still revolve around how the character carries out his missions and duties towards the Brotherhood.

Meanwhile, the story in "Assassins Creed Rogue" will reportedly fit within a trilogy formed by "Assassin's Creed 3" and "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag." According to the site, Ubisoft has "decided to focus on the core Assassin's Creed experience" for the franchise.

Inquisitr adds Ubisoft's decision for the two game franchises to be a single-player game is considerably understandable. Writer Jonathan R. Clauson claims it's not surprising considering the cost and scope of limitattion attached to "Assassins Creed Unity." The game's creator, Ubisoft Sofia, may reportedly find it a challenge to create a multiplayer game since it has not made one aside from the PS Vita version of the battle simulation for "Assassins Creed Liberation."

Likewise, Clauson claims Ubisoft made a firm decision especially since previous multiplayer versions of "Assassins Creed" reportedly have never been a top choice for multiplayer games for any gaming platform.

"Assassin's Creed Unity" for the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions will be released on Oct. 18. "Assassin's Creed Rogue," on the other hand, is slated for a Nov. 11 release for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
