Asus Introduces Transformer Book Duet TD300 Windows 8.1 and Android 4.1 Hybrid: It's Even Better Than iPad Air?
When Asus says it is a Transformer, it is quite literally a Transformer. In 2013, the tech giant has started releasing a range of multi-functional Transformer devices. This time, it steps up a notch offering the Transformer Book Duet TD300 with a dual-boot system. Yes, the devices runs on both Windows 8.1 and Android 4.1. With a hybrid OS and Asus' proven track record in the tablet market, can it really challenge Apple's iPad Air?
Apple remains one of the leaders in the tablet industry. The company has been a formidable player since its iPad line, especially with its iPad Mini. When it released the iPad Air, the tablet competition has changed completely. With the A7 chip powering it up, it has become one of the best tablets around. Asus wants to challenge that.
Known for its work on Google's first and second generations of Nexus 7 tablets, Asus has been a major player in the tablet industry. The company has proven it can produce premium tablets for a good price. During the CES 2014, Asus introduced another Transformer Book. Not only can the device switch from a tablet to a laptop, users can now choose whether they want to run Windows 8.1 or Android in just one click.
That is a whole new take on multi-functionality.
The Transformer Duet TD300 features a 13.3-inch screen and runs on a quad-core Intel i7 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage. Other features include a detachable keyboard, LAN, HDMI, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports. It also features a whopping 1 TB internal storage. Asus also included a front-facing camera, a microSD card expansion slot plus audio enhancing SonicMaster technology.
While the tablet may offer an impressive dual-OS package, there are a few downsides user should get used it. For starters, it features a lower Android version, 4.1. The dock may also feel hefty or thick to some. It may take a while for some people to be comfortable with the device. People should not expect much from its resolution either. The Transformer Book just offers 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution.
