Rohan Dennis, the top cyclist for Australia, broke a world record in a race in Granges, Switzerland on Sunday. Dennis completed 52.491 kilometres on the track and broke the previous mark of 51.852 kilometres set by Mathias Brandle of Austria just last October 2014 in Aigle, Switzerland.

"I feel pretty proud, also happy. I've prepared myself for a long time, it's a huge relief," Dennis said to supersport.com. "I'm really proud to take the chance. 2015 starts better than expected, with the victory in the Tour Down Under and now this record. It's absolutely amazing. We set 52.5 km as the goal, above this it would have been a bonus."

Dennis, who also won the Tour Down Under in Australia in a race last Jan. 20 to 25, was confident that he can break the new word mark saying that his race and form wasn’t even perfect. He also believes that he’s getting stronger despite getting older.

The 24 year old cyclist from Adelaide, South Australia, Australia is an all-rounder from the UCI ProTeam BMC Racing Team. Dennis also started the year on a good note winning the silver medal in the time trial at the Australian national championships. After the win in the Tour Down Under at home, Dennis said he was feeling less-stressed and in showed in his performance in Switzerland.

According to the race report from cyclingnews.com, Dennis was already on course to break the record after 20 minutes and the pace pushed by the halfway mark. Neal Henderson coach of Dennis was proud of the feat and credited their plan on pacing for the world record-breaking feat.

“We had a couple of different options in terms of pacing and he was bang on. There was potential to go a little faster which he clearly did,” Henderson said in the cyclingnews.com account of the race. “We had goal of 52.4kph and one a little bit higher than that. We’re fantastically happy.”
