The industry of the Victorian film and television drama lost half of its total value last year while they are also on the lookout for the next chief executive to lead them after the former head made her recently quit.

According to a survey by Screen Australia released last week, their total value of production reached about $123 million which meant a 55 percent decline from $272 million last year. Their share of the national spend also decreased from 37 to 25 percent per last year. This has been the lowest since the years 2003 and 2004.

According to the chapter head of Screen Producers Association of Australia, Linda Klejus, the Australian film industry should be troubled by this change in figures. Klejus shares her opinion on the cause of such decrease starting with the recent announcement of ex-chief executive Sandra Saulig and her overly spent farewell party costing about $45,000 last March.

"We need Film Victoria to support local producers or else we will just wither on the vine," Saulig added. On a conflicting note, Robert Connolly expressed his own thoughts on the decline of the financial figures. He believes that such results were only triggered by the absence of big time foreign film productions. And this was made certain especially since there were just two foreign movies made in the local scene such as China's 'Love in Space' and India's 'Mr. Perfect'.

But for the acting head of Film Victoria, Jenni Tosi, her hopes are high for a bright outlook ahead. "They've got projects here that they're looking to take offshore; that they're looking to use Australian talent in. We are really optimistic that next year is going to be a good year," she shared.

Projects which are already in production include Filum, Jack Irish telemovies by ABC, and a series on Phryne Fisher. "You just have to go with the good years and stay optimistic in the lean years," Tosi added.
