Australians Prefer Phablets Over Smartphones
For smartphone buyers in Australia, the motto is "the bigger the better," reports ninemsm. Australians clearly fancies the bigger display that phablets have to offer, as revealed in a survey by Teksyte. These comprise of a separate segment where the device is larger than a smartphone but is essentially smaller than a tablet. With 7 inches being the smallest that we have seen so far to be considered a proper tablet device, voice calling or otherwise, a phablet should also be smaller than 7 inches.
Apart from a bigger display, phablet is also characterized by better processing power and battery life than smartphones though the latter can vary greatly. Also, phablets always support voice calling, which means these can be used for almost all that a tablet has to offer while still being used as a smartphone.
So much is the craze for phablets that almost one in five Australians have stated they would be buying the next iPhone only if it comes with a bigger display. The trend hasn't gone unnoticed with Apple, something exemplified with the ever growing display for each generation of iPhone. However, at 4 inches, it still is quite puny against its competitors such as the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Xperia Z2 or the LG G3, all of which offer more than 5 inch of display. Fortunately, Apple is already rumored to be developing the biggest and fastest iPhone we have ever had. Rumor has it that there is going to be two iPhone versions this time with screen sizes 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch.
The survey also revealed that it is the menfolk who are fascinated with phablets while women will rather have smartphones with a relatively smaller display. In another interesting development, tablet growth seems to have hit a plateau in Australia. Experts predict the next wave of growth will be powered by phablets that is already projected to outsell smartphone by 12% over the next 5 years. By 2017, there will be more phablets sold in Australia than smartphones, it is believed.
