‘The Bastard Exectioner’: What You Don’t Know About Kurt Sutter’s Post-‘Sons of Anarchy’ Show
Inspired by Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” Kurt Sutter wrapped up his FX biker drama series “Sons of Anarchy” in December and currently gearing up for a medieval drama show “The Bastard Executioner.” Together with his team of writers, Sutter is now in full blast in preparing for the show’s production on March 19 in Wales with the cast and crew ready to shoot the #TBX pilot episode.
Here are the five things about Kurt Sutter’s post-“Sons of Anarchy” show, “The Bastard Executioner.”
- Imagine’s Brian Grazer pitched the idea of the show to 20th Television Chairmen Dan Walden and Gary Newman, about a knight-turned-executioner who vowed to lay down his sword after the ravages of war destroyed him. But he was forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all when violence threatened him once again. TBX marks the first pilot for FX with Imagine TV.
- Known for his outstanding work in “The Shield” and “Sons of Anarchy,” Sutter teamed up with Grazer and built a whole world around Grazer’s idea. FX bought the pitch on the spot and believed on Sutter and Grazer tandem.
“It was our great pleasure to introduce Kurt to Brian Grazer, who is a powerful force in our industry and a great champion of breakthrough films and television shows like Imagine’s own 24 and Arrested Development,” according to Walden and Newman in an interview with Deadline. “Kurt and Brian together will be unstoppable.”
- “The Bastard Executioner” stars unknown Australian theatre actor Lee Jones who is known for his role as the creature in Nick Dear’s stage adaptation of “Frankenstein.” Jones with play Wilki Brattle, an emotionally deep and spiritually tortured former knights under King Edward I’s charge.
- Other actors in the show’s ensemble cast include “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer, SOA’s matriarch Katey Sagal, “The American” actor Matthew Rhys and Kurt Sutter as The Dark Mute.
- The show is scheduled to be filmed alternately between England and Wales with Sutter eyeing a battle-worn Caerphilly Castle. With the first script already done, the showrunner is planning to have a Fall 2015 premiere.
