'Batman: Arkham Knight' news: Season of Infamy gets mixed reviews, Season Pass on sale for the holidays
While most fans will agree that “Batman: Arkham Knight” is a good game – maybe even one of the best of the year – the same can’t be said for the game’s downloadable content (DLC). After months of waiting, fans have finally been able to play the highly anticipated Season of Infamy expansion pack, and the results have been mixed.
Season of Infamy adds four new Most Wanted missions in the game, with classic foes like Mr. Freeze, Ra’s Al Ghul, Killer Croc and The Mad Hatter. While the addition of new villains seemed like a good idea, it seems like some of the missions in the expansion could have used more work.
A review from Destructoid criticized the missions starring Mad Hatter and Killer Croc, with the former getting most of the criticism. The reviewer questioned even bringing the Mad Hatter to the game, as the character has always been a minor villain to the “Caped Crusader.”
Killer Croc on the other hand, seems to be a case of wasted potential. As most fans know, Croc has received a new makeover for his return to Gotham. While the new design for his character is great, and reuniting with Nightwing is always fun, the overall mission – comprising of some platforming and combat – is disappointing.
On the other hand, the missions starring Mr. Freeze and Ra’s Al Ghul have been praised. The mission starring Mr. Freeze offers closure to the sympathetic villain, while the one with Ra’s Al Ghul has numerous new enemies to face and an intriguing character put into the spotlight.
Fans have been on the fence regarding the “Arkham Knight” season pass, especially since its price didn’t seem to justify the content, as it cost US$40 (AU $55). Well the PlayStation Blog has revealed that the season pass will now be US$20 until Dec. 28, so fans can now get all of the DLC for a solid price.
While the Season of Infamy marks the end of the season pass content, there is one more DLC pack coming that should please fans. The developers in Rocksteady have confirmed that a number of challenge maps would be coming to January and will be free for anyone to download.
“Batman: Arkham Knight” is available now for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The console versions of the game have been heavily praised, while the issues of the PC version have been well documented.
