Battle of the Titans: Samsung countersues Apple in Australia
South Korean-based tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. filed a countersuit against Apple, another tech giant, claiming that the latter violated patents held by Samsung. The countersuit was filed in Australian federal court alleged Apple in violating patent of Samsung related to wireless communication with its iPhone and iPad devices.
Samsung also filed an appeal last Sept. 17 against a court ruling the bans Galaxy tab sales in Germany. Samsung is temporarily banned from selling in Galaxy Tab 10.1 as a decision of a lawsuit. A hearing was initially scheduled on Sept. 26 and 29 to decide the suit.
In a press statement of Samsung Electronic Co., the company said that it has long been in the mobile industry and continuously invested in research and development of its devices.
Samsung is trying to invalidate and revoke Apple of its patents although the former did not specify which patents are described in the lawsuit.
Apple is also in a patent dispute against Taiwan-based mobile company HTC. The dispute pertains to the patents transferred by Google to HTC.
Samsung vs. Apple
The two companies have been in an intense legal war is countries such as the United States, South Korea and Germany, making the war a global battle.
Initially, Apple sued Samsung for copying the "look and feel" of its iPhone and iPad. Apple claimed that Samsung products copy many of Apple's elements. This is mentioned in detail in the 373-page filing.
Symbiotic Relationship of Two Tech Companies
Despite the rally of lawsuit, Samsung and Apple share a mutual relationship. Apple is Samsung's largest buyer of components used in the former's devices. The shift to Taiwan-based manufacturers is arguably not a wise move and worthy for Apple.
Samsung, on the other hand, will be hurt by losing Apple as one of their largest customer.
Business transactions between the two are still ongoing despite lawsuits filed.
