Caitlyn Jenner has been named as one of the most influential women in the world, alongside Angelina Jolie, Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and singer/writer Sia. The honour comes just a month after the 65-year-old former athlete accepted on national television that she is a woman.

BBC has selected Jenner's name for 2015 Woman's Hour Power List of top 10 influencers. She is one of the ten women who have had “exceptionally large impact” on the lives of others. The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, has secured seventh spot on the list.

The reality star is chosen for “bringing the experience of being a trans woman to a global audience,” writes the website. Sarah Vine, one of the selection panelist, told Mirror that Jenner was not their first choice. The judges were initially considering her step-daughter Kim Kardashian to be on the list “because her influence on millions of women worldwide is undeniable.”

However when Jenner appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, she became the obvious choice to be on the list as “she trumped all others in the celebrity stakes," Vine told the website. She also added that Jenner makes some people “uncomfortable” because of who she is. Vine also requests people to respect Jenner as “she is a human being like the rest of us and should not be denied the same rights - or indeed respect - as those who live more conventional lives,” she added.
