When BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS were first launched, they were available only for Android and iPhone handsets. BBM was downloaded over 10 million times in the first 24 hours. With that, even more people can use it as BlackBerry announced that the iOS app now supports iPads and iPods with iOS 6 or higher and with WiFi connectivity.

The company also released bug fixes that address two major issues: a glitch that led to missing contact names (a problem with the iOS app) and unusually high battery drainage for Android.

BlackBerry has made it easier for users to find friends in both platforms. Sharing the BBM code gives the user more options. It is now easier to sort and filter BBM group lists in the Android app while the iOS app was updated with improved right-to-left languages support. Even if you don't have the PIN number of another BBM user, you are still allowed to invite a BBM contact in your groups via e-mail. The updated app also has a "Tell your friends" feature that allows the user to find friends who use the BBM app through the BBM sharing Web site. The BBM PIN can be shared through social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

The BBM app for iOS and Android appears to be stable now, thanks to the bug fixes. When BlackBerry launched the BBM app for iOS and Android in September, an unreleased version was leaked out which caused further delay to the official launch. Though the BlackBerry glory has gone down, the company still makes its best efforts to keep the popularity alive by rolling the BBM app for other mobile platforms.

Managing a large contact list is easy if you organize your BBM contacts into different categories. To do this, you just have to open BBM and tap Contact. Tap BBM-PIN-3Dot followed by "Add Category." Enter a category title and select contact that you'd like to assign to your newly created category. When finished, simply tap Done.
