Best Smartphone Holiday Buy in Australia: iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 920, or Samsung Galaxy S3?
Apple, Nokia and Samsung are all busy trying to draw market attention to their flagship phones this holiday season. Which one is winning yours?
Apple iPhone 5
Apple iPhone 5 is offering a competitive price in Australia. If you are an avid Apple user, you have probably bought the latest iOS device. Either that, or you are planning on getting the Apple smartphone real soon. The good news is that Australia seems to be enjoying the most favorable iPhone 5 price compared to other countries.
"Australian telcos have priced their iPhone 5 plans very competitively in comparison to similar countries. Australia's Virgin Mobile comes out as the lowest price plan option on a 24 month basis at just $47 per month ($1,128) on the Big Plan 29 with no up-front payments when compared with US, UK, and NZ," notes Whistleout's director Cameron Craig.
Nokia Lumia 920
Nokia Lumia 920 has sparked a lot of positive feedback from gadget reviewers this early. Nokia's Windows 8 smartphone has no definitive release date in Australia yet, but it is highly anticipated for the holidays.
Weighing 185g, the Nokia 920 is beaten in light weight by the 112g iPhone 5 and 133g Galaxy S3. However, Nokia 920's pixel density of 332PPI wins against iPhone 5's 326 and Galaxy S3's 306. Still, buyers are expected to base their choice not on weight or screen display quality. Regular buyers will choose among iOS 6, Android Jelly Bean or Windows 8.
Nokia Lumia 920 will be exclusively distributed by Telstra carrier with its LTE network. Vodafone and Optus will sell the Lumia 820 model. Release date is uncertain, but announcements are expected before the month ends.
Samsung Galaxy SIII
Samsung Galaxy S3 boasts of nearly the same features as iPhone 5. At the end of the day, buyers will go for the brand they trust or prefer. (Hence, Samsung came up with ads directed at Apple loyalists.) Some buyers make their final decision based on screen size. In this case, Samsung wins with its 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED screen.
Optus is selling the Samsung Galaxy S3 4G, with prices starting from $51 per month. Telstra carrier subscribers can get the Samsung device on the $60 Every Day Connect Plan.
Prospective Nokia 920 buyers cannot wait for the device to come out in the market. Until after it is released, spectators could only wait before finding out the winning smartphone holiday choice.
