These days, it is common to find people interestedly reading about various battles between gadgets and smartphones, but no one ever get to realise that the best gadget battles have all happened years ago.

Before there was even iPhone vs Android, there were also Betamax vs VHS or even Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis. In fact, Mint made a great commemoration of such epic gadget battles of the past and some of the present through an amazing infographic.

Betamax vs VHS

There was only one winner with this battle and that was VHS. Betamax was first released by Sony way back in 1975. However, JVC decided to come up with their own instead of licensing the Betamax technology and called theirs as VHS. It rendered longer recording time and was more affordable since Beta only had 1 hour recording time.

Super Nintendo vs Sega Genesis

In 1992, Sega was able to maintain 55 per cent of the market share of video games in the U.S. But all these turned sour when Nintendo came up with much better and high quality games for users to enjoy. As Sega continued to focus on the upgrades of their game consoles and as they fail to product quality games, it gave way for success to come instead for Super Nintendo.

DVD vs Laserdisc

The Laserdisc started seeing its decline when the little rival called the DVD came into the scene. Surely, laserdiscs created better image quality and more improved sound but its cost was so high that its players were also higher in price compared to the DVD players.

Kindle vs Nook

Even up to this very day, the battle for e-reader gadgets is still on. Two of its greatest fighters include the Kindle by Amazon and the Nook by Barnes & Noble. Both are still fighting well as both each has some amazing feature to boast of. The Kindle has better readability feature while the Nook has better colour options for its screen. It's still hard to tell who wins up to this point especially with Nook introducing full Internet browsing feature.
