'The Big Bang Theory' Season 9: Sheldon, Amy Are Not Yet Done Speaking [Spoilers]
[Spoiler Alert: The article contains spoilers from the season finale of "The Big Bang Theory" Season 8, read at your own risk]
“The Big Bang Theory” Season 8 ended on an unexpected note, with multiple cliff-hangers. Amy (Mayim Bialik) broke up with Sheldon (Jim Parsons), saying that she needs to step back and re-evaluate their relationship. And Sheldon revealed that a wedding proposal was on his mind, as he showed the engagement ring to the audience.
Also in the episode, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) were on their way to Las Vegas to get married there, though the element of excitement was missing from their final scene because of Leonard’s confession that he kissed a girl during his stay at the ship in North Sea. The final episode also saw Raj (Kunal Nayyar) telling Emily (Laura Spencer) that he loves her. He had not planned to blurt that out, but was toying with the idea of breaking up with her. And Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) were unable to give Stuart (Kevin Sussman) the eviction notice.
When “The Big Bang Theory” returns with Season 9, Steve Molaro, showrunner of the show, said that he is not sure whether there will be a time jump or not. If there is one, it would not be “terribly long,” he told The Hollywood Reporter (THR).
Speaking about Sheldon and Amy’s storyline, Molaro said: “I don't know exactly what's going to happen but he's clearly fond of her. I don't think they're done speaking by any means. He's so fond of her -- something is going to happen between them, I'm sure.” He also confirmed that Bialik is not going anywhere and will be returning as a series regular in the upcoming Season 9.
Molaro said that Leonard and Penny are still driving to Vegas but called the mood in the car “a little chilly.” Without revealing whether this couple would tie the knot or not, he said, “They're in a very interesting place and we'll find out what happens when they get there.” The showrunner said that the fans should be worried in a good way.
Meanwhile, “The Big Bang Theory” will return, with the first batch of Season 9 episodes, on Mondays. CBS has yet to announce the premiere date.
