“Big Brother Australia” has evicted a crowd favourite housemate! In a shocking turn of events, a beloved housemate, who was thought to become the ultimate winner, has been voted out by the Australian public, sending the rest of the housemates into frenzy.

So who was it?

Ben, the pyjama-wearing likeable guy in a house full of alphas, has been evicted from the Big Brother house. And unlike his first “eviction,” this one is for real.

The 31-year-old former flight attendant was originally tipped to win, even getting the most votes in a previous eviction episode, allowing him to become the “fake evictee.”

Unfortunately, times have apparently changed. Ben got the lowest votes this time, which only meant that he was promptly evicted from the famous house. And that was a blow to the housemates, who always thought that Ben would at least be in the final three.

Even Tim was visibly upset with his genial rival’s surprising exit. The two have an unusual friendship in the house. As the opposite of each other, they often clash about the smallest things, but the two also have utmost respect with one another. Tim had one time assured Ben that he wouldn’t leave him when they’re outside the house, even if Ben didn’t want his company anymore.

Drew and Jade must be feeling really guilty with the unexpected outcome. They both voted Ben on nomination night, thinking that since he had a large fan base, he would be safe and their other nominee would be the one to go.

Ben accepted his eviction calmly, though. His fellow housemates were a wreck, but the beloved bespectacled newest evictee only had a smile for his companions.

After which, the surviving housemates all appeared understandably glum. Ben got along with everyone as he refused to take sides in any war between housemates. His eviction has proven something, though. No matter how popular one is at the house or even outside the house, no one is safe from eviction. Ben has gone from the housemate with the most number of votes to the one with the least.

Here’s the voting tally:
Ben – 16.2%
Ed – 16.9%
Drew – 17%
Tim – 17.8%
Tahan – 32.1%

Surprisingly, it’s Tahan who almost doubled everyone’s votes. She didn’t always get the highest number of votes, but this week was different. Although she has quite a number of critics, her followers were very adamant in making her safe.

Ben’s fans, on the other hand, appeared to have become negligent this week. Perhaps everyone thought he’s already safe, that’s why only a few bothered to still vote for him. And that’s the flaw (or beauty, depending on how one looks at it) of the Big Brother voting system. People get to vote for the one they want to stay, not the one they want out, which gives not-so-popular housemates equal chances of winning.

It’s unlikely that the show is rigged, but, according to some voters, the system was very suspect. Behind Big Brother (@behindbb) has posted a screenshot of one voter’s frustration of not getting her vote for Ben through.

The remaining housemates weren’t the only ones upset; even the evictees were shocked at Ben’s exit.

I can't believe Ben has been evicted! What a massive shock. He is such a legend and down to earth guy. Good work mate. #BBAU — Matthew Filippi (@MattBigBrother) October 9, 2013

Ben's been a true gentlemen of the game. I wish he won and could show the world the validity of genuine decency. #bbau #besthousemateever

Tully’s concern wasn’t for Ben, though. It was for her “house husband” Drew.

So glad Drew is safe! #BBAU
