'Black Sails' Season 3: Blackbeard is looking for an heir; Ray Stevenson reveals back story
Ray Stevenson teased some of the aspects of his character Blackbeard in “Black Sails” Season 3 in a recent interview. The actor praised the production crew of the TV series, in which he will be playing the role of the infamous pirate for the first time.
Talking about the back story of his character in the show, Stevenson told IGN that when the fans see Blackbeard in the show he will already be a “living legend” and a “colossus.” The infamous pirate will apparently be back after eight to nine years of absence and he has had eight wives.
The main objective of Blackbeard in the show appears to be to search for “an heir” who can “keep his legacy,” “keep his legend alive” and “secure his place in history.” Apart from looking for an heir, Blackbeard will also try to reconnect with someone that he used to mentor, according to Stevenson. The actor said that his character will try to “rekindle an old relationship.”
Stevenson did not reveal which character in “Black Sails” Season 3 was once close to Blackbeard. He did, however, tease that the appearance of his character in the next season will turn the island of Nassau “upside down.” The pirates of Nassau have been fighting to retain the autonomy of the island and have also been fighting amongst each other over control of the island.
Blackbeard was one of the “founding fathers” of Nassau, revealed Stevenson. The character is also one of the authors of the Pirate’s Charter and he is not happy with the way the young pirates have been conducting their business on the island.
Stevenson teased that his character will be seen in some action sequences on the show, without giving out any details. The actor complimented the crew of the movie for creating the elaborate sets and also pointed out how rich in detail the costumes are on the show.
Starz has already released the first trailer of “Black Sails” Season 3. The video shows Blackbeard and some of the other popular pirates from the show in action sequences. The TV series is slated to return in January 2016.
