BlackBerry Z3 vs. Moto E – Specifications, Features and Price Showdown
Both Motorola Moto E and Blackberry Z3 were released in May 2014. Both the handsets are budget-friendly and come packed with impressive features. Readers who are interested in the Moto E or the BlackBerry Z3 should check out this specification, features and price comparison.
Display, Exterior and Size
The Moto E features a 4.3-inch display bundled with a screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The BlackBerry Z3, meanwhile, features a bigger 5.0-inch display with the same resolution as the Motorola device. The pixel densities of the Moto E and the BlackBerry Z3 stand at 256 ppi and 220 ppi respectively.
Similar to other BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Z3 comes with a solid build. As NDTV puts it, "the Z3 is ridiculously good looking and its construction quality is impeccable." In the front, BlackBerry has used smooth glass with less bezel space encircling the display. Moreover, the back panel of Z3 is made of textured plastic that gives the look of a rubberised rear.
The Moto E, on the other hand, is extremely sturdy and comfortable on the hands. The rubber-like back panel provides good grip and the handset provides premium look. It is worth noting that, the Moto E comes with a peculiar waterproof coating. Even though, this coating cannot be compared to the IP67 certified (water resistant) handsets like Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, the phone is water repellent and splash proof.
The thickness and the weight of Moto E are 0.48-inch and 142 g respectively, whereas the BlackBerry Z3 is 0.37-inch thick and weighs 164 g.
Hardware, Software and Memory
The Moto E is powered by a dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 200) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. The BlackBerry Z3, meanwhile, is powered by a relatively better dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Krait 200 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. While the BlackBerry Z3 comes with a good 1.5 GB of RAM, the Moto E settles for 1 GB of RAM. Also, the Moto E runs on Android OS v4.4.2 KitKat (upgradable to higher versions), whereas the BlackBerry Z3 runs on BlackBerry v10.2.1 OS.
The Moto E comes with only 4 GB of internal storage with microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB. The BlackBerry Z3, on the other hand, comes packed with a relatively better 8 GB of internal storage and microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB.
Camera and Battery
The BlackBerry Z3 sports a 5 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 1.1 MP front-facing shooter. Whereas the Moto E houses the same 5 MP rear-facing camera unit with no LED flash and there is no secondary camera unit at all.
The Moto E comes equipped with a Li-Ion 1980 mAh non-removable battery unit, while the BlackBerry Z3 features a solid Li-Ion 2500 mAh non-removable battery unit.
Connectivity, SIM and Colour
Both the phones support Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot and microUSB. In addition, both the phones support micro-sim type. However, several variants of the Moto E come with dual-sim support, while the BlackBerry Z3 doesn't.
Furthermore, the Moto E comes in black/white front panel but there are seven different colour choices for the back panel. Whereas the BlackBerry Z3 comes in black at this point, although white coloured Z3 is awaited.
Price
The BlackBerry Z3 can be purchased for AU$279.95 in Australia, while the Moto E can be purchased at AU$199.95 in Australia.
