Samsung has a new design patent that likely points to a sturdier unibody casing for its upcoming flagships - either the Galaxy Note 3 set for release on September 2013 or the Galaxy S5, which remains in the drawing boards.

Patent Bolt discovered this week what could prove as the next-generation chassis of high-end Galaxy smartphones, which seems to be forged in a material reminiscent of the HTC One. Save for the sketch provided, the design provides no further details except that it has been in existence since 2011 or two Galaxy generations ago.

A close look by Gotta Be Mobile revealed that Samsung is lining up an all-metal material iteration for future iterations of its upscale mobile models. If indeed the next Galaxy casing is made of aluminium, then the Note 3 is eliminated from the equation as Samsung had hinted earlier that its third-generation phablet is the bigger clone of the Galaxy S4, which is mostly made of plastic.

The design departs from the signature curved corners introduced via the Galaxy S3, using instead angled edges for the purpose of boosting the handset's wireless and cellular signals.

The phone frame shows openings both at the back and front portions, which should be provisions for a glass front panel and a rear cover to protect the device's battery. The render seems to hint that cover will remain removable, it will be sliding though for the Galaxy S5, GBM said.

That means Samsung is extending many of the popular Galaxy S features to its 2014 models, which in this case is allowing users to remove the battery to replace it with a fully-charged pack plus the insertion of an extra memory card.

While the drawing supplied in the patent suggests of a stretched phone screen with less bezel surrounding it, no clues were given on its dimension. It can only be assumed that the profile is based on n over 5-inch screen, if the patent is indeed intended for the GS4 replacement.

If the design refers to the Note 3, then the screen size should be between 5.7-inch and 6-inch, as suggested in earlier leaked specs about the Galaxy Note 2 successor.
