'Borderlands: The Handsome Collection' Gets Exclusive 4 Player Local Multiplayer
After plenty of fan requests, it appears that game developers 2K and Gearbox are finally giving fans what they want. When “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection,” hits next gen consoles this month, it will come with a local four player co-op mode, which will also be in splitscreen. This is a first in the “Borderlands” series as previous games only had up to 2-players for local co-op.
The mode was announced back in January, but hands-on impressions weren’t available until recently thanks to the recent Game Developers Conference, or the GDC. A report from Games Radar praised the insanity and fun that can be had when four gamers are in one room and shouting at each other when a giant monster appears on “Borderland 2.”
A video reaction from IGN also shared the same sentiment. The hosts who played the game complemented how the second game looks great on the PlayStation 4, even stating that it looks just as good as it did on the PC version, which was the superior version of “Borderlands,” at least when it came to graphical quality.
However, most of the praise comes from the local multiplayer for the revamped version of “Borderlands 2” that will be part of the “Borderlands: Handsome Collection.” The other part of that collection, “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel,” received mostly mixed reactions.
In a lengthy article from Shack News, it seems that the next-gen version of “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel” seems to suffer from the continuous frame rate drop that happens on four player local co-op. Considering that the game is filled with plenty of action, the frame rate issues seem to make the game look very messy, leading to player losing track of the action.
Still, it was stated that the copy played was not the final version of “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection,” so there is still some time to fix the lingering issues before the game’s release on March 27. “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection” comes with “Borderlands 2,” “Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel” and all the DLC released for both games. The collection will be available for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
