Amir Khan renewed his hopes of landing a bout with Manny Pacquiao early next year in what could be the Filipino’s last boxing fight. Khan is convinced he is the frontrunner to face the former eight-division titlist after revealing that his team is still in talks with the Pacquiao’s camp.

Khan has recently said he had pulled out of negotiations with Pacquiao and appeared to be fixed on looking for other opponents like Danny Garcia and Kell Brook. But the British boxer revealed on a trip to India that a deal for a potential Khan-Pacquiao card is “going really well.”

According to Sky Sports, Khan confessed that Pacquiao’s team is speaking to his side for a fight that will surely excite boxing fans around the globe. However, the Bolton welterweight vowed not to play tag with Pacquiao like what he did with Floyd Mayweather, who declined Khan’s challenge several times.

There might actually be hope for Khan to be Pacquiao’s opponent on Apr. 9 as Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum urged the British welterweight’s team to visit Las Vegas and map the final deal of the fight. According to the Telegraph, both sides have assured that talks for a Khan-Pacquiao bout are ongoing, with Arum confirming that there is definite interest for the boxing contest.

"I'm sure the kid would take the fight,” Arum told the Telegraph. “Khan, his uncle Taz and his lawyer could be getting on a plane and coming over to Las Vegas and we could thrash this thing out. We could have had this thing done two weeks ago,"

Pacquiao said he is open to fight anybody, and even hinted a rematch with Mayweather, who has already retired following his victory against Andre Berto in September. The boxer-turned-politician is set for retirement after his last fight next year to focus on his political career in the Philippines, where he attempts to land a seat at the Senate in the nation’s upcoming national elections in May.
