Boxing News: Amir Khan wants to "settle score" with Danny Garcia
Amir Khan has reportedly been in negotiations with Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s camp for a possible fight early next year. While a bout against Pacquiao would be Khan’s priority, with a belief that a win against the Filipino could lure Floyd Mayweather Jr out of retirement, the British fighter has not closed the door yet in a possible rematch against Danny Garcia.
Khan, who holds a record of 31 wins, 3 losses and 19 knockouts, is on a mission to be the boxer to pull Mayweather out of boxing retirement. However, the Bolton welterweight is also considering to “settle the score” against Garcia despite reports that Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum has already started talks of a possible Khan-Pacquiao fight card in 2016.
"I'd like to fight Danny Garcia and settle the score properly,” Khan told Sky Sports. “I'd like that fight as well and in the next two or three weeks we should know exactly who I'm going to be against.”
Khan has not fought since his unanimous decision victory over Chris Algieri in May but is on a hot-streak of five straight wins since his defeat against Garcia. Khan also revealed that he is looking at fighting in December or late February, with a few different opponents to choose from.
Garcia, who holds an undefeated record of 31 wins and 18 knockouts, defeated Khan in July 2012 via technical knockout in the fourth round of their light welterweight championship battle. The American boxer utterly dominated Khan, knocking the British boxer down once in the third round and twice in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, Garcia revealed last week that he would love to have a second showdown against Khan. “I came to this division to fight the best and if that’s what they want we can make it happen,” Garcia told Boxing Scene. “We can do the rematch whenever he wants but it’s always going to be in the back of his head though, when he left these badboys.”
