Boxing News: Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao Fight Doubtful Says WBO President Francisco Valcarcel
World Boxing Organisation, or WBO, President Francisco Valcarcel is one of of the boxing observers who is pessimistic that the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight will happen in 2015. Valcarcel admitted that he wants to see the big bout happen but is says that the involvement of a lot of people and organisations is making it very hard for both camps to agree on a deal.
"You have too much stuff all around the board that have to be agreed too; Showtime, HBO, promoters and all kinds of things. I have my doubts that the fight will take place,” the WBO President said to Percy Crawford of fighthype.com. "People want to see Mayweather and Pacquiao and I want to see Mayweather and Pacquiao, but again, like I tell you before, I got my doubts that that fight is going to happen. You got too much stuff there to come to terms and agree to and it's not easy when you're dealing with two, three, four, five, six and seven parts; not easy...not easy."
Valcarcel, a Puerto Rican lawyer who became the president of the well-respected boxing organisation in 1996, said that while he is not directly involved in the said Mayweather and Pacquiao negotiations, he’s regularly updated and confused by the press reports because of the conflicting statements from both camps.
Mayweather and Pacquiao have yet to agree on any finalised deal but the most recent development that some broadcast deals are already agreed upon and shown some positive movement with regards to the super fight. In a recent interview, Pacquiao was asked about the fight and the Filipino said that the sports fans just have to wait for the official announcement.
Mayweather and Pacquiao met in a Miami Heat-Milwaukee Bucks basketball game over two weeks ago and then also met in Pacquiao’s hotel room to discuss the fight. So while a lot of people are pessimistic like Valcarcel, there are signs that both sides are working very hard to make the super fight happen possibly on May 2, 2015.
