Brief Injunction on Samsung Tablet May Delay Australian Debut of Galaxy 10.1
Federal Court Justice Annabelle Bennett hinted Monday that she may grant a brief injunction on sales of Samsung tablet while studying arguments from Samsung and rival Apple, a development that would likely delay the Australian debut of Samsung's 10.1 Galaxy Tab.
Earlier, iPad manufacturer Apple claimed that Samsung plans to go ahead with the Friday launch of the Galaxy Tab despite the current court case and injunctions banning the sale of the device in Australia and Germany.
Bennett said she may issue the short injunction to give her time to study the patent infringement lawsuit before the court, which could delay the Galaxy rollout well into October, or later.
"Technology moves very quickly.... It would be in both sides' interest to have this matter finalised quickly," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted the judge.
Despite court battles on different continents, Samsung Mobile President Dale Sohn announced that three additions to the Galaxy family of products will be available in October in the U.S.
These are the 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab, which has Google's Android 3.1 Honeycomb, to be available Sunday, and new media players Galaxy Players 4.0 and 5.0 which will be available Oct. 16.
The Galaxy Tab, which is Wi-Fi only, is available at $469 for the 16GB model and $569 for the 32GB model. The Galaxy Player 4.0 has a $269 price tag while the 5.0 is available at $229.
"People want their mobile device to fit their lifestyle, and the Galaxy Tab 8l.9 and Galaxy Players offer unparalled power and portability to meet the widest consumer needs," Sohn said.
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 has a TouchWiz UX user interface which has Live Panel widget for quick access to e-mail, news, photos and more from the home screen, and one-touch overlay that grants access to commonly used apps using the Mini Mode Tray, Clipboard and Indicator Quick Panel.
