Sledgehammer Games' awaited shooter title "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" will be releasing in a month, and already, Sony and Microsoft have given fans the chance for cross-buy capability for its platforms. Activision announced via the PlayStation Blog that, for a limited time, those who bought the "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" on the PS3 can also get the PS4 version for free.

On the other hand, those who have already purchased the PS4 can still get the PS3 via the cross-buy program. What's even better is that this promo extends to the DLCs in-game, even the season pass. While the upgrade has a time limit, the publisher has assured that players will not have to meet a deadline when it comes to transferring the progress and data from one platform to the other.

Preloading is already available for "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" but the other version will only become available on Nov. 3. If you're starting from the PS3 and opting for the free upgrade, best to do it before Mar. 31, 2015, which is the set deadline. For Xbox One and Xbox 360 fans, Polygon adds that the free upgrade is also in effect with the same deadline in place.

Trekking A New Path In Storytelling

When Sledgehammer Games said that they have been working on "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" for years, it's natural to assume that the developer has put a lot of planning into the equation. However, it seems that inspiration is also a part of it, as studio co-founder Glen Schofield shared how they had formulated the title after being inspired by a personal story.

Speaking with IGN, Schofield said that a friend's story had inspired the nature and atmosphere in "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare." This was made more poignant during the memorable speech delivered by Jonathan Irons, voiced excellently by Kevin Spacey.

According to the source, the themes and ideas took shape when he heard the story of a friend who used to be in Iraq. He had escaped after Saddam Hussein had freed him on the former's birthday, a tradition that Hussein has kept. But when he was asked to escape, he basically said that, even though he was thrown in jail, his life was rooted there because he was given food and protection.

It seems that this trumps other things that people could want, and has influenced the main theme of the story, where power can change everything.
