‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops III’ Announced With Cryptic Teaser Trailer, Zombies And Setting Confirmed
Most gamers are still knee-deep in “Advanced Warfare,” but that hasn’t stopped Activision and developer Treyarch announcing the next title in the “Call of Duty” franchise; “Call of Duty: Black Ops III.” The latest entry in the blockbuster series was announced via a short teaser trailer and a brief blog post by Activision. New details have emerged regarding the game’s setting and gameplay modes.
“After working in the shadows, the team at Treyarch returns this year with ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III.’ There’s so much to talk about and I’m sure you all have plenty of questions, but the good news is you won’t have to wait long for answers—the world reveal of ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ is set for Sunday, April 26, so stay tuned for details,” reads a post on the official Activision Blog by community manager Scott Lowe.
The brief statement precedes a cryptic one-minute teaser trailer, which is also hosted on the official “Call of Duty” YouTube page. While the teaser and blog post represent the only information officially released by Activision relating to “Black Ops III,” Videogamer notes that more details have been unearthed by digging around in the official website’s source code.
The source code confirms that “Black Ops III” will be the first entry in the “Black Ops” series built for next-gen hardware. It adds that the game will see players explore a dark, twisted future, in which a new type of Black Ops soldier has been created. The description goes on to hint at a further evolution of the exo-suit armour and biomechanical enhancements introduced in “Advanced Warfare.” It states that the lines between humanity and the technology we have created has become blurred in a world where our cutting edge military robotics define warfare.
The source code provides scant few details regarding gameplay, but confirms the presence of three game modes; Campaign, Multiplayer and the return of the ever-popular Zombies mode. A full reveal for “Black Ops III” is officially scheduled for April 26. While no release date has been provided, “COD” games have historically launched within the first two weeks of November, with a multiplayer reveal followed by an action-packed single-player demonstration at that year’s E3.
