It seems Canon has a big year ahead as it has recently launched three cameras for 2017 -- two DSLRs, EOS Rebel T7i and EOS 77D, and one mirrorless camera EOS M6. The cameras will be available in Australia from late March 2017. The Canon EOS Rebel T7i’s body will sell for US$749 (AU$980). The Rebel series consists of Canon’s entry-level lineup and the T7i’s star attraction is the integration of 45 cross-type autofocus (AF) points and Canon’s latest Dual Pixel AF system. Fast focus is enabled by the combination of contrast and phase detection.

According to Tech2, the Canon EOS Rebel T7i produces 24.2MP images at up to six frames per second. It comes with a vari-angle LCD screen, hits ISO 25,600, shoots full HD video, supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC and uses Canon’s fastest Digic 7 image processor. The Canon EOS 77D body comes at a price of US$899 (AU$1,200) and offers the same specs and features as the Rebel T7i. However, it has an advantage over the T7i because of its ability to shoot through flickering light.

The Canon EOS 77D is highly customisable. The rear Quick Control dial and a top-mounted LCD screen make the camera customisable and endow the ability to shoot through flickering light. The mirrorless Canon EOS M6 camera also uses a 24MP sensor like the other two though its Burst mode is slightly faster at seven frames per second. The LCD unit is fixed and the electronic viewfinder (EVF) has to be separately purchased. The body price is US$779 (AU$1,020). None of the three cameras can shoot in 4K, which is a tad disappointing.

“In what marks the 30th year since the introduction of the Canon EOS System, the announcement today of these two new DSLR cameras exhibits Canon’s commitment to providing our customers with the tools they need to grow their passion for capturing the best possible pictures of the moments in time that mean the most to them, or inspire them to one day shoot professionally,” Canon USA president and COO Yuichi Ishizuka said in a press release.

Canon has also introduced the new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and Wireless Remote Control BR-E1. It has even added functionality for the Canon Connect Station CS100. While Canon EOS Rebel T7i and Canon EOS 77D are perfect for those who want an 80D-like camera but does not want to spend over US$1,000 (AU$1,300 approx), the Canon EOS M6 mirrorless camera is a more compact shooter and worth considering, writes Engadget.
