Capcom Registers New Title For 'Resident Evil' Game Sequel
“Resident Evil” fans are in for a surprise as Capcom Japan has recently registered a title for a new game sequel. The title is believed to be related to the "Resident Evil 7" franchise.
Capcom Japan has listed a trademark for "Biohazard Umbrella Corps" with the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office on July 26. According to Gamepur, “Biohazard” is actually the Japanese name for “Resident Evil.”
A copy of the full registration document is shared by Gamepur online. Although written in both Romaji and Hiragana wordings, the documents reportedly reveal that “Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps” will be compatible with a variety of gaming consoles. These include "portable consoles with LCD screens and TV Home Consoles.” The game may also be made available through mobile. However, Venture Capital Post said developers are yet to announce its plans of making the game available for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
“Umbrella Corps” was first noticed being registered as a trademark in the European Union. According to Vine Report, it was registered at the Office of Harmonization in the International Market (OHIM) earlier in July. However, the title was not thought to have any association with the game franchise, since it lacked the “Resident Evil” reference.
Capcom was expected to reveal the “Resident Evil 7” title during the June E3 convention but fans were let down when details about the franchise were not released. It’s believed “Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps" could be the new title for the game. In the “Resident Evil” game franchise, “Umbrella Corps” is a biotech company that is responsible for the plague that causes humans to turn into zombies.
Capcom has been using “Umbrella” in its previous “Resident Evil” game releases that its connection to “Resident Evil 7” is not surprising. Stevoir noted how it was used in the Wii game “Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles” and players also got to play as Umbrella soldiers in “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.”
“Resident Evil 7” is scheduled to be released in the 2015 fall season. According to the Express, the game is rumoured for release around the same time as “Halo 5: Guardians,” on Oct. 20. A designer was reportedly asked by Capcom to work on the game sequel back in 2012 to 2013.
