Sebastian Stan, who is reprising his role as Bucky Barnes in the upcoming film “Captain America: Civil War,” has discussed the possibility of donning Captain America’s hat in future Marvel films.

When asked whether he would like to step into the shoes of his character’s comic book equivalent in Captain America, he said, via We Got It Covered, “It’s so not up to me, and to be honest I really enjoy my job over there, I’m really happy going to work and doing what I do.” He added that he loves the character of Bucky Barnes, and if Marvel decides to add a new dimension to his character, he is “game” for that as well.

In the comics (via Marvel), Barnes took the mantle of Captain America when Steve Rogers was thought to be dead. It is in “The Death of Captain America” that Barnes agrees to serve as Captain America, and his Captain America costume is made of adamantium and features a pistol and a knife. As Captain America, Barnes fights Red Skull and Dr. Faustus.

The previous film, “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” saw Stan’s character losing his memory. Speaking about the progression of this character, co-director Joe Russo told Collider, “If he doesn’t regain his memories, can you call him Bucky Barnes or is he somebody new? So it’s a really fascinating character to play with.”

Stan has a nine-picture deal with Marvel, but the production house has not yet revealed future plans for his character. At the moment, it is revealed that the actor has already shot his parts in “Captain America Civil War.” However, the details about his character have not been revealed.

Meanwhile, Stan is currently promoting his upcoming film, “The Martian.” The film had its premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 11. Stan plays NASA scientist Dr. Chris Beck in the film. It opens Oct.2, 2015.
