Carolina Hurricanes, Elias Lindholm agree to 2-year deal
The Carolina Hurricanes and Swedish youngster Elias Lindholm has agreed to a two-year contract worth $5.4 million (AU $7.53 million), according to a report from the team’s official website.
The Hurricanes’ site also stated that the 20-year-old prospect would earn $2.5 million and $2.9 million in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons, respectively. The team’s official Twitter account also confirmed the deal.
Coming off career-highs in the 2014-2015 NHL season, Lindholm had 39 points (17 goals and 22 assists) in 81 regular season games for Carolina last year. Lindholm was a first round pick by the Hurricanes in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft or the fifth overall selection.
“Elias played well last season, nearly doubling his offensive numbers from his rookie year,” Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Hurricanes, said in an official statement. “We expect he will be a very important part of the Hurricanes as he continues to develop as a professional.”
In 58 games in his rookie year, Lindholm, who is from Boden, Sweden, had 21 points of 9 goals and 12 assists.
Lindholm has also represented the Swedish ice hockey national team in various international competitions. He is part of the youth and junior squads for his country from 2011 to 2014 and was named to the seniors squad this year.
