Nokia claimed to invade the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 with its previously released device Lumia 1520, while Huawei unveiled its new phablet Ascend Mate 2. Which of the two devices have the bigger chance to conquer CES 2014?

Aesthetics

There is not much of a difference between the size of the devices. The Lumia 1520 is 162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7 mm in dimension with a weight of 209 g, while the Ascend Mate 2 is 161 x 84.7 x 9.5 mm with a weight of 202 g. The Ascend Mate 2 is curved around the edges, while Lumia 1520 is easily distinguished with its rougher edge.

Nokia's phablet has more color choices available in yellow, white, red and black. The Ascend Mate 2 is only available in crystal black and pure white.

Screen and Display

Even in screen size, the two phablets are almost the same, with Lumia 1520 sporting a 6-inch screen in full HD 1,080 x 1,920 pixels (367 ppi) and Ascend Mate 2 with a slightly wider 6.1-inch screen in eHD 1,280 x 720 pixels (241 ppi).

Performance

The Lumia 1520 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2 GHz processor backed by 2 GB RAM, while the Ascend Mate 2 is running on an inferior Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.6 GHz processor with 2 GB of RAM.

There is also a big difference in the operating system. The Lumia 1520 is runs on a Microsoft Windows Phone 8 Black platform, while the Ascend Mate 2 runs on Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean). Most tech savvies prefer the Android platform for its customisability and the whopping 650,000 apps it offers.

The advantage of Windows is its simplicity. Tiles are more understandable than Android's widget. It is easier to use for novice smartphone users but the apps offered are limited.

Camera

The Lumia 1520 boasts of a 20 MP camera unit, while the Ascend Mate 2 has the average 13 MP. For those who love clicking and capturing every moment, Nokia's phablet is the better choice.

Battery Life

The Ascend Mate 2 packs a 4,050 mAh battery, the while Lumia 1520 has 3,400 mAh. The Lumia 1520 gives 27.4 hours of talk time. Whether the Ascend Mate 2 can last longer is yet to be seen.

Price Range

The Lumia 1520 is offered at a price range of $629-$925 in Australia. The Ascend Mate 2's price remains to be unannounced, but it would more likely be less pricey than Nokia's device.
