Channel Ten is partnering with Microsoft to launch a video-on-demand service for Xbox subscribers. The Network Ten Xbox app is set to launch on July 10, Wednesday, and will give Xbox Gold Live subscribers access to over 25 shows.

In an effort to expand the network's reach, the new agreement is touted as the first commercial free-to-air network video on-demand app that will be available in Australia through Xbox. It will allow subscribers to catch up on watching their favourite programs by giving them instant access from the network's channels, Ten, Eleven, and One.

"This is the first product release in Ten's TV 'anywhere' strategy. Our goal is to deliver a TV experience anywhere that consumers are engaging with video content. Ten's TV anywhere strategy will be realised over time by a number of product releases across different platforms and devices," Network Ten's Chief Digital Officer Rebekah Horne said.

With the use of Xbox's Kinect, users will be able to navigate the app using voice and gesture commands. Ads are part of the programming breaks, but the network said that it could potentially target them using Kinect technology.

Microsoft announced in June its new NUads for Xbox One, a new type of advertising that uses Kinect and integrates gestures and voice control.

The shows that will be available are Offspring, The Graham Norton Show, Bondi Rescue, Bondi Vet, Totally Wild, and The Living Room. News programs such as Ten News at Five and Ten Late News are also included.

"Our aim is to provide Australian Xbox Live members with the best and most popular television content, alongside movies, music, and games, and now they will be able to access some of Australia's highest rated local and international shows," Jeremy Hinton, Interactive Entertainment Business Lead for Microsoft Australia, has been quoted by Tech Radar as saying.

Xbox Gold Live members can download the app starting July 10.
