Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho does not have any plan of letting go of his skipper, John Terry, at least until next season.

The 34-year-old retired England international was a question mark when the Portuguese mentor returned to Stamford Bridge in 2013, with the latter generally preferring youth as he plans for the long haul.

After appearing to have lost the consistency and reliability at the back under the supervision of previous managers such as Andre Villas-Boas and Rafa Benitez, Terry has, thus far, defied the odds by putting in more-than-youth-like performances.

He was named man-of-the-match at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday after scoring the opening goal, en route to winning the Capital One Cup at the expense of Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

"I can guarantee he will be a Chelsea player next season," said Mourinho.

"No doubts he's going to get his contract."

Terry will likely be handed one more year in compliance with the Blues’ policy of allowing only a maximum of 12 months in case of an extension for players over 30 years old.

While acknowledging the fact that his time could be almost up in west London, the Chelsea academy product feels that he still has gas in his tank to give it one more push in one of the top clubs in the world.

"If this is my last year, then I hope it goes out on a bang," said Terry.

"But I am feeling great at the minute and it would be the wrong time to go."

Chelsea are in a very good position to win the domestic league at this juncture of the ongoing campaign, five points clear of second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand. They are also one of the favourites to go all the way to the finals in the Champions League, although only managing to secure a draw against Paris Saint Germain in the first-leg of the round-of-sixteen.
