Manchester United have taken their chase for Chelsea's Juan Mata to a higher level Reuters

Manchester United are reported to have taken their interest over signing Chelsea star playmaker, Juan Mata, to a higher level.

The Blues, who are also interested in acquiring Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney, have given United hope and at the same time a headache, as the former are willing to let go of the Spain international but for a hefty price-tag - £40 million.

David Moyes is looking for a creator who can supply the ball to his strikers as well as look for his own shots. Mata, who created 30 chances in 30 appearances - more than any other Red Devil - and has tallied 2 assists, thus far, definitely fits the bill.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has previously said that he hopes that the 2-time Chelsea Player of the Year stays, but indicated that the door is open, should the latter insists on leaving Stamford Bridge.

A transfer will be a win-win situation for all parties since Mata, who is primarily concerned of his World Cup spot with Spain, will be able to get regular first-team football at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be able to unload a fringe player for a price that will, in a way, reduce their recent financial loses, while United will be able to field in that required spark in the middle of the park.
