Club Nintendo officially discontinued today
Nintendo’s rewards service has been officially taken offline in North America recently. The confirmation of Club Nintendo’s abolishment was made through the official Club Nintendo website, which now only contains an image of Mario and Toad, and a short message from Nintendo.
Nintendo may be looking at a new system for loyal players soon. Over at the official Club Nintendo website, the accompanying message says that there will be a new rewards system and that Nintendo will update fans. The plan to remove Club Nintendo was announced back in January this year.
Despite the system already closed in North America, players in Australia, Japan and Europe can still access the catalog and cash in their points. It shouldn’t be long before the rewards service will be removed from the other regions as well. Some of the items that can still be availed of in select areas are seen in this list.
To gather and avail points, players shoud buy Nintendo products, they will then see a code written in a Club Nintendo slip. Each product is entitled to different point denominations but consoles such as the Wii U and 3DS reward players with more points.
The catalog for the rewards service still includes a slew of items. Players can avail digital copies of games for the Wii U and 3DS. They could also opt to avail physical items such as 3DS cartridge cases, posters and t-shirts.
The Club Nintendo rewards service allowed Nintendo fans to accumulate points from buying Nintendo products. These points which could then be used to avail of a wide range of items. Previously, players could avail of points by purchasing Nintendo products. Products have different point denominations, but the Wii U and 3DS rewards player with more points. Nintendo has yet to detail what the mechanics of the new rewards system will be.
Also ending soon is the fighter ballot for “Super Smash Bros” Nintendo World Report notes. The fighter ballot is a poll which Nintendo has set up to determine another character to join the roster of “Super Smash Bros.” Nintendo is yet to reveal the results.
