Computers come in all shapes and sizes, and can be filled with a wide range of hardware. It's easy to get overwhelmed with all of the choices when shopping for a new computer. That doesn't even get into the concept of building a PC, where users need to not only buy components individually, but make sure they all work together.

CLX, the custom computer experts, are here to help. I've had the opportunity to use a custom CLX computer over the past month or so and it not only runs superbly, it's also insanely quiet and beautiful to look at.

A Little Background

A quick history lesson on myself: I'm not really a PC guy. I've never really been one. In fact, I seem to have bizarre issues with computers every time I use them. I'm aware of the top modern graphics cards, but have absolutely no knowledge of how to install them or any other PC component.

This makes me a perfect candidate for a company like CLX. As someone who has no major knowledge of how to build a computer, turning to the experts makes the process of getting a high-end gaming PC seamless. Those who do actually know what they are talking about will only have an easier time than I did, which seems practically impossible.

CLX Ra

Along with building a completely custom computer, CLX has a few standard models available. I was sent a CLX Ra chassis, complete with an RTX 3060, Core i7 processor, 500GB solid state main drive, 4TB secondary hard drive and two sticks of 8GB DDR4 RAM. The Ra also came with Windows 10 pre-installed and ready to go. To say it completely blows away any other computer I've owned is an understatement.

The CLX Ra is just so pretty to look at

While the CLX Ra is an amazing computer, there were a few odd exclusions. The computer didn't come with a built-in WiFi antenna or built-in Bluetooth support. It's true that computers have better performance when directly plugged into a modem, but that would require running a cable through my entire apartment. Thankfully I had a cheap USB WiFi antenna, but it is something to keep in mind.

The CLX Ra arrived in a massive crate, which did look cool, but made carrying the PC up to my apartment a little difficult. Once the computer was out of the crate, things got a lot easier. All that was needed was to plug in the power cable, plug in the accessories like a monitor and keyboard, and then press the button on the top of the case.

Deadly Silent

What shocked me the most about the CLX Ra is how quiet it is. This is a computer that is filled with some pretty beefy hardware, and I can barely tell when it is on (outside of the many RGB lights, but we'll get to that later). There is both a liquid cooling system and seven fans built into the chassis, and even when gaming for multiple hours I never really heard the CLX Ra get much louder than it does when booting up.

Easy To Further Customize

CLX computers are already custom-built, but as time progresses older hardware inevitably breaks down and upgraded hardware is released. CLX is aware of this, and has made further customizing their computers easier thanks to ample space in the chassis. The exterior of the case is also made of glass that is on a hinge. These glass panels can easily swing open for easy access to dust off components or swap in new hardware.

The CLX Ra even came with additional hardware to help mount more storage drives in the chassis. Given how much space still remains inside the case it should be pretty easy for someone in the know to be able to get an additional drive installed without hassle.

Blinded By The Light

Those who like RGB lighting with their PC hardware will absolutely love the look of CLX computers. The Ra I was sent has RGB lighting blasting from just about everywhere, making the computer light up like a Christmas tree.

The lighting is... a lot

If the RGB ever gets to be too much, the lighting is entirely customizable. It can be set to specific colors or just be turned off. That said, while the computer is very vibrant, the lights aren't terribly bright. When sitting under my desk with all the lights off in my office, the CLX Ra doesn't make that much of an impact on the overall light in the room.

Performance

I won't go too in-depth on how the CLX Ra performs, as that is more based on the graphics card and processor which aren't the focus of this review. Needless to say, gaming on the CLX Ra is smooth as butter. Playing at 1260p and 75 fps (the max settings my monitor will allow) is no problem and I didn't experience any performance dips or other hardware-based glitches.

I did fill up the 500GB SSD fairly quickly, but that is more because games these days are positively massive. Call of Duty Warzone alone took up a healthy chunk of space by itself. Even the 4TB secondary drive isn't going to last long for someone who is a Game Pass subscriber or otherwise has a large library of games.

Big Price Tag

An unfortunate truth about PC gaming is that high-end PC hardware is not cheap. Flagship graphics cards start at several hundred dollars and can easily climb into the thousands. Add in the assembly that CLX includes, and a custom CLX PC's price tag can easily start growing.

It is possible to get a CLX computer for under $600 right now, but options with more high-end specs are not available for under $1000. To go all out with an RTX 3090 or equivalent graphics card is going to really push the price up to $4000 or even more. With high-end specs comes high-end prices.

That one black button on top is the power button

The one great thing about getting a CLX computer instead of building one from parts is the peace of mind that a CLX computer will be built properly without fear of accidentally frying a part or missing plugging a crucial component in.

Final Thoughts

CLX makes getting a top-of-the-line gaming PC an easy experience for experts and complete newbies alike. Even though I have no experience building a PC, the pros at CLX put one together and shipped it off, leaving plugging in a monitor, keyboard and mouse the only requirements for me to start gaming.

The CLX Ra is as quiet as it is beautiful. Gaming and working on the CLX Ra is awesome, and I find myself just admiring it frequently. Yes, this is an expensive computer, but that price clearly shines through with top-notch hardware that has been expertly assembled to work together in harmony.
