Command & Conquer Generals 2 Coming Soon?
News about the confirmation of Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is now spreading and many gamers and critics are anticipating the arrival of this new game.
Victory Games, the company behind this game already confirmed the arrival of a new version for this game and further details about this game was revealed in the recently held Spike Video Game Awards. It is now dubbed as "Command & Conquer: Generals 2". The game is now in its development stage at the new Bioware Victory Studio and it will be utilizing the Battlefield 3's Frostbite 2 engine. Predicted release date for this game was set for 2013.
The game is supposedly set in a near future setting wherein global peace would be a big possibility. Despite that, a terrorist attack happened during a peace conference where all the world leaders including politicians and diplomats were attacked. This attack resulted into generals being left to deal with the situation. This is the reason why instead of peace talks, warfare was introduced once again. This new game will feature a single-player focus told from different vantage points. There is also an option for different multiplayer modes as well as battlegrounds being more "destructible".
Jon Van Canegham, executive producer for this game described this game stating that it is "going to put Generals 2 on the cutting edge of the industry and will set a new bar for fidelity in the strategy genre." He also added that "there are certainly going to be a number of differences between a shooter and a strategy game, but the possibilities are certainly opened up more when you have a great new engine to build upon." Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware mentioned in his statement that this is something that gamers have been asking for even before. He also added that there are a "lot of great possibilities" and "the tone of the series is a bit more serious and getting to work with massive armies and modern technology in a near future setting is really going to make for an intense, immersive experience."
The original version of this game was first released in the year 2003 and in this new version; the company remarked that they will go back to the game's core values.
