The Galaxy S III Mini has been the subject of many rumour-laden reports. Now, Samsung has spoken, a Korean news outlet reported.

Samsung Mobile Communications head JK Shin on Wednesday confirmed the Android device's release in Germany on Oct. 11.

Shin told reporters the decision to release a "mini" Galaxy S III was made in response to an "increasing demand for 4-inch devices in Europe."

As to whether the "mini" Galaxy S III will be considered an entry-level handset, Mr Shin said the Android device will take a "full form factor."

"We'll be launching a 4-inch Galaxy S III on the 11th in Germany," Mr Shin was quoted by theverge.com.

"There's a lot of demand for a 4-inch screen device in Europe. Some call it an entry-level device, but we call it 'mini,'" Mr Shin noted.

It was just reported last week that Apple had started the production of its new product, the iPad mini.

Informants of The Wall Street Journal said the new tablet device features a screen that measures 7.85-inch diagonally.

The WSJ called the new Apple tablet the "Mini iPad," but circulating rumours have dubbed the product, the "iPad mini."

Purported photos of the iPad mini have since been released to social networks. Reports indicate a mid-October announcement.
