More clues about the upcoming Nexus 5 from Google were spilled out this week, thanks to a leaked manual that purportedly points to the LG G2, which everyone believes is the likely template for the vanilla Android smartphone.

Courtesy of prolific gadget news scooper, NowhereElse.fr, the G2, it appears, is indeed flashing a volume rocker that is rear-mounted and located just below the device's camera lens. Sandwiched between the control key is a biometric scanner that facilitates the locking and unlocking of the handset.

It is some form of a fingerprint scanner but its full functions remain unclear. What is clear though is the possibility that all these cool features and functions will be deployed too with the Nexus 5 if speculations proved true that Google and LG are again collaborating to assemble the supposed Nexus 4 successor.

Fingerprint sensor is first attached with rumours about the iPhone 5S release date and features. Specifically, the feature should make it harder for phone thieves to capitalise on stolen devices.

It is also suggested that biometric technology will be paired with near-field communication (NFC) system, which paves the way for premium services to be included in the mobile device ecosystem such as wireless payment processing.

These whispers, should they become reality, would again make the Nexus 5 and the iPhone 5S as chief rivals for consumers' attention in the second half of 2013.

In the past few weeks, LG has been ramping up its campaign for the public to become more aware of the LG G2, which is the South Korean tech firm's 2013 flagship.

It is of phablet-size with a 5.2-inch screen display plus a 1080p resolution. Most of the features attributed to the device make it a major rival of the Galaxy Note 3, which is Samsung's third-generation that will be unveiled in early September 2013.

The leaked G2 manual hinted that it is nano-SIM compatible, taking the same page that was started by the iPhone 5. Powering the gizmo is a battery with a 2600mAh rating, also removable if users need to slide in an extra power pack.

The G2 will tap on a powerhouse quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU that steams roll with a top-speed of 2.3GHz, which is paired with a 3GB of RAM. All these upscale components are expected to be part of the grand Nexus 5 debut that will come a few months following the August unwrapping of the LG G2.

The Nexus 5 release date is pegged for the first week of October 2013 and the slimmed down device is touted too as the vehicle chose by Google to launch its Android 5.0 or Key Lime Pie.
