Apple will unveil the iPhone 5S on Sept 10 and the iPhone 6, rumoured to be of phablet-size, will have to wait until the first quarter of 2014 for its grand release date, new reports said.

Citing Japanese blog site MacOtakara as its source, Gotta Be Mobile reported this week that it is definitely the 5S that the world will get to seen on the media event that Apple has reportedly scheduled on Sept 10. The bigger iPhone will likely debut next year - within the first three months, the report added.

MacOtakara also claimed that included in the fresh 5S features is a main snapper that is equipped with a dual-LED flash in two different colours, which should enable users to capture high-quality images even in low-light conditions.

It was also suggested that a budget Apple smartphone will be part of the iPhone 5S launch and the handset will be known as the iPhone 5C. No new 5C details were provided though earlier reports pointed to a device that is housed in a plastic casing with slightly trimmed down component capabilities and feature in order to achieve an affordable pricing mark.

However, the reports seem to confirm that the iPhone 6 will not be part of the 2013 product surprises that Apple CEO Tim Cook had implied in previous statements. Should that device becomes a reality, the earliest it will come is during the first months of 2014.

And in rolling out the 5S, it is likely that Apple's efforts will be hampered by a major production glitch, big enough, according to DigiTimes, for the initial shipments of the handsets to suffer supply shortages.

By the end of third quarter this year, Apple manufacturers will only be able to deliver four million units of iPhone 5S, tops, and the limitation is caused by the inclusion of fingerprint scanner on the handset.

It appears that the looming supply difficulty is partly due to the late start of mass production for the fingerprint sensor mechanism, which has yet to begin per reports by DigiTimes. The 'project' will only commence in the last week of August and huge shipments are expected to be delivered starting October 2013.

Once the production pace picks up, Apple is reportedly aiming to ship out some 30 million freshly-minted iPhones to make for the slack created during the initial weeks of the 5S commercial availability.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo wrote in a new note that Apple has revised the Home button key of the iPhone 5S in order to make room for the fingerprint scanner that will be embedded underneath the iconic iPhone key.

From the previous iPhone versions' concave, the Home button will slightly protrude from the screen surface and will be protected by sapphire coating, which according to Mr Kuo will offer better protection against normal wear and tear plus scratches.

AllThingsD has reported that Apple will host a media event on Sept 10, in which the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C are expected to be announced but the actual release date of the iOS 7-powered devices should occur on Sept 20.
