After nearly a decade of inactivity, the foul-mouthed squirrel many know as Conker is set to return to the video game realm in “Conker’s Big Reunion,” courtesy of game developer Rare. This is the character’s first big video game since “Conker: Live and Reloaded” on the original Xbox, which was the sequel to the incredibly controversial Nintendo 64 game ‘Conker’s Bad Fur Day.”

The game will be appropriately set 10 years after the original Xbox “Conker” game, with a story involving Conker having to pay an overdue bar tab, while also going on an adventure that will take him to many different locations. As can be seen from the gameplay trailer below, “Conker’s Big Reunion” is going to be a 3D platformer, much like the previous two games from Rare.

One interesting fact surrounding “Conker’s Big Reunion,” is that the game will take a page from titles like “Resident Evil Revelations 2” and “The Walking Dead,” by being an episodic adventure. Polygon notes that the game will only be playable if users download the free game creation suite known as “Project Spark,” which is available for Xbox One and Windows 8.1.

While “Project Spark” is free, the new “Conker” game will be purchasable for $4.99, though it wasn’t made clear if players will be paying $4.99 per episode of this game. Fans who want to make their own “Conker” game will be able to do so as Eurogamer reports that players can purchase a Conker Creation Pack that will contain 350 creation assets players can use to make their own dream “Conker” game.

Earlier this year Ken Lobb, the creative director for Microsoft Studios told the Inner Circle Podcast that there were big plans for Rare and some of its bigger properties like “Battle Toads” and “Banjo-Kazooie.” Now it appears that those plans are coming into fruition. “Conker’s Big Reunion” is set to come out this month, on April 23 to be exact, as a downloadable title for Microsoft’s “Project Spark.” In other Rare related news, the “Battle Toads” are going to appear as bosses in the hit indie title “Shovel Knight.”
