Console OS Seeking Additional Funds to Include Surface Pro Series in ts Dual-Booting Project
Console OS, the Kickstarter project that promises the best of both Android and Windows has stated they are including the Surface Pro tablet lineup in their venture, reports AndroidCentral.
The firm is well on its way to secure funding to the tune of $50,000, having already notched up excess of $41,000 with still over a month to go. However, the developer team is now seeking a stretch goal of $75,000 to cater to the Surface tablet range, which the group is confident of providing manufacturer grade software experience too. The company is also toying with the idea of offering more facilities for a few bucks more to help rake in more public participation.
For those who have joined in late, Console OS is an Android based operating system that is being developed by Mobile Media Ventures. The objective of the project is to allow users Android/Windows dual-booting experience, as revealed in an Engadget report. It is being envisaged that the Console OS would run either on a standalone basis as the primary OS of the device or as a secondary OS. The switchover time between the two OS's which is often considered the biggest irritant with dual booting devices is pegged at 10 sec.
The team behind the project has also exuded confidence in pulling off such a feat, brushing aside concerns of this being near impossible. They have stated the OS would be equally at home with both touch based devices and those that require keyboard or a mouse for input. The team has also cited a few devices such as the Dell Venue 8 Pro or the Lenovo Miix 2 to be compatible with the Console OS. Both the devices mentioned are Intel based and run Windows 8.1.
It might be recalled that Asus too had a somewhat similar idea with its Transformer Book Duet, a device that booted both Android and Windows. The device which was first showcased during the CES back in January was well received. Unfortunately, Acer was forced to pull the plug on the hardware under insistence from both Google and Microsoft, reports BGR. Console OS can well fill that void if they can deliver what they are promising.
