Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jareau has long proven herself to be a prominent character in the show. She has charmed fans with her love story with Detective Will LaMontagne, Jr. and devastated those who thought that she was going to be gone for good in Season Six.

But for the Criminal Minds Season 9 Premiere, A.J. Cook is gearing up as her character JJ takes the center of the drama. Prepare for some Criminal Minds Season 9 spoilers and expectations, especially for JJ fans.

"She's [JJ] got this enigmatic past. She went away in season 6 and came back a different character. Season 9 is going to be answering what happened that year she was away," said A.J. Cook who portrays JJ in Criminal Minds to Parade.

It seems that this will involve a newcomer to the series, Section Chief Matt Cruz (played by Esai Morales) who will be replacing Erin Strauss. The Criminal Minds Season 9 Premiere will also see JJ as a new character, with a new sense of humour, fiercer, and more of an ass-kicking girl than in earlier seasons.

One thing is for sure for the Criminal Minds Season 9 premiere and the succeeding episodes: JJ's past will be a big reveal, and it's one that viewers may not be expecting at all.

Hotch is on the lead again

Just like when Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) had to fill the shoes as leader when Jason Gideon (Mandy Patikin) left the show in the second season, he is now likely to be the leader again but with a bigger scope to handle as temp replacement for Erin Strauss.

But aside from being the struggling leader, viewers will also get to enjoy a look at Hotch's past, where they will be treated to a Hotch and a Penelope Garcia circa-2004, when Garcia was not yet the savvy fast-talker that she is in the BAU team.

According to TV Spoiler News, there may even be a glimpse of who Garcia was in love with at the time. Garcia may be Criminal Minds Season 9 premiere's origin story yet.

Romance is in the air?

Speaking of Garcia's romance, rumours are now swirling that the petty flirting that she and Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) often engage in on and off the phone may find a deeper meaning.
