‘Daredevil' Newcomer Jon Bernthal Talks Playing As The Punisher
Jon Bernthal was recently confirmed as a cast in season two of “Daredevil.” The actor will play the role of The Punisher” and Bernthal talked about his character for the first time since the announcement.
Jon Bernthal expressed his excitement to portray the role of Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher during an interview with ABC News. "I'm very thrilled and we haven't started yet, but I'm very much looking forward to it,” he said. “The walking Dead” star declined to reveal any more details about his character in season two of “Daredevil” and instead said, “it's just a huge honor to play the part and that's all I can say about that.”
Jon Bernthal was cast as The Punisher last week but this is reportedly the first time he’s publicly spoken about his role. According to Comic Book Resources, Marvel Studio’s had described the character as “a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results."
Jon Bernthal’s casting came after Tom Hardy had expressed his intent to play as The Punisher in a possible film remake. The “Mad Max: Fury Road” star was asked during an interview with Collider which superhero character he would like to portray. “I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, “Hardy replied.
However, the actor also had his doubts about landing the role because of his height. Tom Hardy jokingly said that he is “not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9.” But nonetheless, he said that he would still love to play the character. Apparently, height is not a problem when casting The Punisher since Jon Bernthal is shorter than Tom Hardy. The 38-year old stands five feet and eight inches.
Having The Punisher in season two of “Daredevil” is said to be the perfect way to bring the character back up after two failed big screen adaptations. According to Comic Book Movie, “Daredevil” is the perfect place for the vigilante Frank Castle to make his comeback appearance after a bleak cinematic future. “Daredevil” could reportedly fit the R-Rated hero because of its dark and violent atmosphere.
